Immigration Law

Immigration Law in The Gambia governs the entry, stay, and exit of foreign nationals in the country, as well as citizenship and naturalisation.

The Gambia is a party and member state of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), which allows the easy movement and entry of citizens of member states into the country for visits, work, study, and related activities. For citizens of member states entering the country for purposes of work and study, they must obtain a work or study permit as well as a residential permit from the Immigration Department.

Irrespective of your immigration status, it is important to seek expert advice and guidance with complex applications such as acquisition of land as a foreigner, and assistance with spousal and dependent applications for the main applicant.

In extreme situations where the need arises, it is prudent to seek legal representation to assist with immigration litigation, appeals, detention, and deportation.
